A seven year old boy who was catastrophically injured during his birth at Cavan General Hospital has (through his legal guardian) settled his medical negligence case. The Hospital had already admitted liability and had apologised to the boy’s parents. The drug syntocinon had been used to speed up labour. This drug should never be used where there are signs of foetal distress. The settlement, approved by Mr. Justice Cross, included an interim pay out of €2.1 million
